I have just recently returned from the best 5 days exploring the sunny city of Barcelona with my 2 best friends - as we get older we still incist on having at least 1 summer holiday a year together. For the past 3 years Ibiza has been our destination of choice but this year we decided to have a break from the White Isle in exchange for the City of Gaudi.
Of course we tried to see all of the classic tourist attractions whilst on our short trip to Barcelona. One of my favourites being the Cathedral de la Segrada Familia. The sheer size of the cathedral took my breath away and the architecture is stunning. A magnificent building that still hasn't been completed. I can't imagine how grand it will look when it is finished.
(TIP: For anyone planning a trip to Barcelona who would like to view the famous Gaudi architecture in Park Guell pre-book your tickets. We didn't realise you had to purchase a ticket to get in so we were disappointed when we realised it was sold out for the following 2 days after climbing the huge hill to get there).
We also found a flea market - whilst out sight seeing - selling lots of hand made jewellery and I bought 2 rings and a bracelet to add to my ever growing jewellery collection but also a good keep sake from my time away. Another cool place we discovered was a sweet shop called Happy Pills. Branded like a pharmacy you selected a bottle size, put on a glove and filled the 'pill bottle' with whatever sweets you like - and there is a huge selection. The final part of the process you get to select a funny sticker to personalise your bottle.
My friends and myself are food lovers so we were really excited to try lots of new food and eat out all the time whilst away! We had the best tapas at Palosanto - a small tapas restaurant located in the Gothic Quarter, so small there was only about 4 tables inside and a handful of tables outside. We dined alfresco whilst drinking sangria and enjoyed several authentic tapas dishes.
We tried to make it up for breakfast but failed almost everyday. The one time we managed to make it out in time for brunch we found a cute little café called Granja Petitbo. Their brunch menu included eggs, pancakes and waffles. With fresh orange juice and coffee what more could you ask for? I had eggs benedict with a Frappuccino and my friends had some pretty lavish pancakes.
Some of my other fave meals whilst away included an Iberian burger - a burger with Parmesan cheese, rocket and Serrano ham and a stone baked pizza topped with mozzarella, rocket and Serrano ham - can you see the pattern here.
Whilst away we partied more than expected - hence not making it up for breakfast most days. We knew Barcelona had a good night life we just didn't realise how good it was until we were there. We had drinks on top of the city museum, partied in Pacha and Opium, caught Yousef's set at La Terrrazza, chilled out on a bed at hotel W Wet Deck Summer Sessions whilst being waited on, observed the amazing view from VIP at Eclipse nightclub on the 26th floor of hotel W and we even watched the sun set over Barcelona from a 5star boat party hosted by Barca Rocks.
I would definitely recommend Barcelona for a city break and know I will be back in the future. As usual more pics on my Instagram!
