The Met Gala is one of - if not THE - most anticipated fashion events of the year and I don't just mean for the celebs attending and the designers dressing them but also for those of us who are dying to see what everyone wore as they passed the paparazzi on those iconic steps. Or maybe what they weren't wearing is more fitting in some cases. Celebrating the annual Costume Institute exhibition this years Met Gala theme honoured Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo - a Japanese fashion designer with a love for abstract, sculptural designs and at the age of 74 some may say a fashion veteran.
Rei Kawakubo's designs on display at the Met.
So I'm going to let you in on some of my fave outfits from this years event!
Rihanna in Comme des Garçons
In true stand out fashion Rihanna turned heads in a Comme des Garçons dress. Committing fully to the theme you don't get any more Comme des Garçons than this. Paired with on trend red lace up heels her origami inspired top knot and colour block makeup really completed the look.
Kendal Jenner in La Perla
Embracing the 'undressed' trend Kendal Jenner wowed onlookers as she graced the red carpet in this see through La Perla Haute Couture slip dress. This delicate dress has been embroidered with 85,000 crystals and with a low cut back and sexy side split Kendal didn't leave much to the imagination. But I mean with a body like that who wouldn't want to show it off?
Cara Delevingne in Chanel
As a Chanel ambassador i wouldn't expect Cara Delevingne to be wearing anything else. Standing out in this shiny, sparkly metallic suit which complemented the theme with its almost Japanese style flower design. Metallic colour palettes being another statement trend this Spring/Summer.
Zoe Kravitz in Oscar de la Renta
This Oscar de la Renta dress has a very classy silhouette and the baby pink and black satin gives it a more modern feel. The dramatic cape and real black roses give it that extra luxurious factor. A delicate yet statement dress which works well with Zoe's cropped blonde hair.
Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney
Kate Hudson was another celeb which went for an oragami style top knot dying her hair peroxide blonde for the occasion. This simple yet stunning off the shoulder, white Stella McCartney dress flatters her amazing figure and the balloon sleeve - almost looking like oragami- is another big trend right now .
And last but definitely not least...
Katy Perry in Maison Margiela
As co-chair of the event Katy Perry had to pull out all the stops. I love when celebrities risk an avant-garde outfit at these types of events instead of playing it safe. That is exactly what Katy has done in this all red, tulle dress designed by John Galliano. Fully embellished and complete with a vale this dress fits perfectly with the theme.
